What a HOT night in Dallas. Temperature was at 108° in the parking lot and surely 10°-15° hotter in the amphitheater. We scored 2nd row center seats for this show through L-83. Nice to know that having been a fan since damn near the beginning that you can still pull great seats.
John seems to really like Texas and Dallas especially. The first is obviously that Dallas crowds always represent at his shows. Packed house from the first row to the back of the lawn. The second is that his idol growing up is Stevie Ray Vaughn. This show didn't disappoint in either regard.
Jennifer and I made our opener calls. I picked BTMB and she picked Belief. She called it a draw but I know I won even just barely. :). Crossroads is a tough one since the Cream version is so ingrained into my brain. John's is based on Cream's version but slowed down with more swing and less aggression than Cream.
We are all sick of Daughters. Nothing has changed in that regard although this new '74 version as it's called has quite a bit of a Van Morrison in his Tupelo Honey days.
Good Love came at just the right time. I much prefer the Trio version though. Mercy was a nice cover from a new British artist, Duffy. Nice bluesy tune but I would have rather heard an original blues tune. Free Fallin was the crowd favorite. Pretty straight forward and similar to the L.A. Where The Light Is version.
Old John? The NST > Why GA was fun as hell. Alot of interplay between the two songs with a good bit of My Stupid Mouth in the middle. Make me remember the days when he do somethin similar in 83.
Nothing left to say but fuckin' COLD SHOT! Yeah it's a drag! John has acquired one of the copies of Stevie's Number One or his wife as SRV called it. Tells the story of the greatness that is SRV and busts out Cold Shot. So many SRV tunes i've wanted him to play Riveria Paradise, Rude Mood, Testify, etc but the Cold Shot was great. It brought back a whole ton of Stevie memories.
One of the best John shows i've seen in the last couple of years. Tapes came out great except my deck got overheating and I lost Cold Shot and Gravity. Dammit
